This book gets children to practice their new skills by first reading short, little phrases, which will prepare them for the next book.  This book is amazing because it has exactly zero sight words!  So, that means your child can read everything without having to memorize any sight words.  No more frustration because the clues are on the every letter!  It’s all about enabling.  This gives children confidence while helping them develop a love for reading, using only the sounds that they know up to this point.  It is here that they will learn the skill of putting expression into their voices.  I’ve used a simple technique to do this: Say the large words in a higher tone, and the small words in a lower tone.  It is crucial for good comprehension to read with expression!  These are the skills included:  Short and Long vowels.  Copycat sounds for ‘c’ like “cent,” ‘g’ like “gerbil,” and ‘s’ like “zipper.”  All consonant blends: bl, fr, str, etc.  And all digraphs: ch, sh, th, etc.

There are 48 phrases.  Every upper case and lower case letter is used multiple times.  As are all short vowels, all long vowels, and all silent vowels.  Every consonant blend and every digraph are used multiple times too!  A lot of thought has gone into this great little book to make sure your child/student  studies ALL that they’ve learned.  Plus, they will be introduced to Punctuation Marks.  Read the phrase with the clues, then cover it up with a piece of paper and read it without the clues.

These 48 phrases are repeated, with the clues removed from all of the consonants that only have one sound.  The letters which can make more than one sound, and the digraphs which used two letters to make one sound, will still have the clue on them.  They are weaned from most clues.  Compare the two, “Shut your window!” phrases.

    I am so pleased with the results I have seen in Makaylee using the “See abc’s” program. This program really works. The steps in this learning program made learning to read a multi-sensory experience. The student is able to learn through visual, audio, and tactile means. Makaylee needed to see, hear and touch in order to process the information she needed in order to learn how to read. The program taught her to use her imagination to create clues so that when she saw the letters, she could remember the sounds they made. She was able to hear and repeat the sound the letters made. Using her fingers, she would follow along as she learned to chop and blend, putting sounds together to form words. After learning to read words, I watched as Makaylee easily moved on to “ABC’s Phrases See What They Say”, putting words together to make phrases. Now she has progressed to reading “Stories See What They Say” and is so excited about what she can do. I can see a sense of accomplishment when she finishes reading a story. I am so glad we found Doreese and her program. I feel that it has made learning to read a positive experience for us and helped Makaylee understand.
